Self-tanners are normally formulated using
dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which is a 3-carbon sugar that when applied to the skin
it incurs a chemical reaction with the amino acids in the stratum corneum
that leads to a tanning effect. However in order to provide stronger and
faster tanning results while offering customers brand differentiation, we
created FSS Cationic Glycoprotein, a fermented material derived
from the Yerba Santa plant which helps accelerate the reaction between DHA
solution and the skin, providing faster and longer lasting tanning
benefits.
FSS Cationic Glycoprotein is fermented using Lactobacillus
to allow for more efficient isolation of important glycoproteins. Following
fermentation, this product is run over an ion exchange resin to isolate the
proper cationic molecules. FSS Cationic Glycoprotein works by
increasing the available free amino groups that can react with the DHA. The
product’s cationicity makes it substantive to the skin
